A long car ride can be exhausting – unless you spice it up! The right travel games for drivers and passengers can turn a long journey into a fun and unforgettable experience. Whether it’s a family trip, a romantic getaway or a roadtrip with friends – a bit of good mood never hurts.

Below, we’ve gathered the most popular travel games for drivers and passengers you can play on the road – no gear, no prep, just loads of laughter!

  • Observe and list

A classic and simple game where one person picks a category (e.g. red cars, traffic signs, animals), and the others compete to spot as many items from that category as possible. A great choice for kids to develop observation and concentration skills.

  • Last letter – new word

The first player says any word, and the next must continue with a word that starts with the last letter of the previous one. For example: “car” – “rabbit” – “tree” – “elephant”. It quickly becomes fun and silly – a perfect game for group playfulness.

  • 20 questions

One person thinks of something (an object, a person or a place), and the others try to guess it by asking yes-or-no questions. A challenge that quickly creates a true detective vibe in the car.

  • Alphabet challenge

The goal is to find words that start with each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z. You can spot them along the road or come up with them based on things in the car. A fun and educational game, especially for the youngest passengers.

  • License plate numbers game

Each player tries to come up with a word or sentence based on the initials from other cars’ license plates. For example, if a plate reads “LJ-HT-928”, someone might say: “Lazy Jellyfish Hugs Tigers”. The winner is the one with the funniest or most creative combo.

  • Who am I?

One of the passengers thinks of a famous person (real or fictional), and the others guess who it is by asking yes-or-no questions. The game continues until someone guesses correctly. The winner is the one who figures it out with the fewest questions.

  • I spy with my little eye

One of the passengers picks something they see nearby and says: “I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter…” (e.g. T for truck). The others try to guess what it is. If no one gets it, a clue is given.
