Motorhome pick-up at Free2Rent
Motorhome pick-up at Free2Rent
Before you set off
Before your first motorhome trip, it is worth allowing enough time to inspect the vehicle and receive a practical introduction to its equipment. A thorough motorhome pick-up helps you understand how the onboard systems work, check the condition of the vehicle and set off with greater confidence. At Free2Rent, we recommend arriving at the agreed time without feeling rushed and asking any questions you may have during the handover.

Prepare the necessary documents before you arrive
Please bring a valid ID or passport, your driving licence and your booking details. Before signing the rental agreement, we will go through the rental period, authorised drivers, insurance cover, your planned route and the vehicle return procedure together.
As individual rental conditions may change, we recommend reviewing the latest motorhome rental terms and conditions before your trip. There you will find the most up-to-date information on required documents, payment, vehicle use, insurance and other important details.
How does motorhome pick-up work at Free2Rent?

We begin by inspecting the exterior of the motorhome together. We check the bodywork, windows, mirrors, wheels, tyres, awning, roof and external storage compartments. Any existing damage is recorded in the handover document.

From our experience, we also recommend taking your own photos before setting off. Capture all sides of the motorhome, the wheels, windows and the main areas of the interior. This gives you a clear record of the vehicle’s condition at the start of your rental.

Next, we go through the interior, including the sleeping areas, cupboards, kitchen, fridge, bathroom, toilet and all included equipment. We will also show you where the electric hook-up cable, water hose, wheel chocks and other accessories are stored, so you have everything you need for your journey.

Try the onboard systems before you leave
Before you set off, we’ll show you how to use the motorhome’s most important onboard systems. We also recommend trying each one yourself, as it’s the easiest way to remember how everything works.
Together, we’ll check:

An important part of your motorhome pick-up is learning how to use the main control switches, understand the warning lights, and check the battery and water level indicators. Don’t worry if this is your first time hiring a motorhome. Our Free2Rent advisor will guide you through everything step by step and make sure you’re confident using all the essential systems before you set off.
Final checks before you drive away
Before driving away, check that all windows, roof vents, cupboards, drawers and the fridge are securely closed. Stow any loose items, disconnect any external hook-ups, and make sure the entrance step and awning are fully retracted.
It’s also important to remember the motorhome’s height, width and length. Driving a larger vehicle requires extra care around low bridges, canopies, trees, narrow streets and when parking. Place heavier luggage as low as possible and secure it properly before setting off.
Before your journey, we also recommend reading our motorhome rental FAQ, where you’ll find practical answers about booking, using the motorhome, pick-up and return procedures.
A thorough motorhome pick-up is much more than a formality – it’s your opportunity to get to know the vehicle properly before setting off. At Free2Rent, we take the time to explain everything in a practical way, answer your questions and make sure you feel fully prepared and confident for your journey.
